What are the cultivation methods and precautions for potted chrysanthemums?

How to grow potted chrysanthemums

Chrysanthemum likes warm and humid climate and sunny environment. The most suitable growth temperature is around 20℃. It is better to use soil with soft texture, good water permeability and air permeability. This kind of soil can drain water in time and is more suitable for plant growth.

Potted chrysanthemums can be cultivated in fertile sandy soil and given appropriate light at ordinary times. They should not be exposed to direct sunlight in summer. In spring, autumn and winter, small amounts of water should be given, but more water can be given in summer. Base fertilizer should be applied during cultivation, otherwise the plants will grow poorly. Top dressing should be done in time during the growing season.

Watering method

It is best to water potted chrysanthemums slowly with a spray bottle, and do not water them with strong force. The amount and frequency of watering should not only be determined according to the season, but also according to changes in the weather. If you do not water on rainy days or when the temperature is high and the evaporation is high, you should water less.

Fertilization method

When planting potted chrysanthemums, apply sufficient base fertilizer, and then apply nitrogen fertilizer every 10 days. After the beginning of autumn, from the bud formation to the appearance of buds, apply slightly more concentrated fertilizer water once a week. When the buds are about to bloom, apply concentrated fertilizer water again and then stop fertilizing.

Pruning methods

When potted chrysanthemums grow to more than 10 cm, start pinching them, leaving only 4 to 5 leaves at the base of the plant, and remove all the leaves on the top. When 5 to 6 new leaves grow, pinch them, leaving 4 to 7 main branches on the plant, and the branches and buds that grow afterwards must be removed immediately.

Precautions for potted chrysanthemum cultivation

During the cultivation of potted chrysanthemums, diseases and insect pests may occur, generally causing damage such as leaf spot disease and wilt disease. Once discovered, the damaged parts should be cut off as soon as possible and burned, and treated with Bordeaux mixture and carbendazim at the same time.
