What kind of fertilizer is good for walnut base fertilizer (base fertilizer application method)

Effect of walnut base fertilizer

It is necessary to grasp the timing when applying base fertilizer to walnuts and try to apply it as early as possible, otherwise it will affect the fertilizer efficiency. If base fertilizer is applied early, the leaves will have vigorous transpiration and a stronger ability to absorb nutrients, which can improve the utilization rate of fertilizers, increase the nutrient accumulation of the plant, have strong resistance, and have light shoot growth over the winter. It can also promote wound healing and have less effect on weakening the tree.

Walnut base fertilizer selection

Walnut trees have a high demand for fertilizers, especially fertilizers containing macroelements such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, among which nitrogen is more abundant. Insufficient nitrogen supply will lead to poor growth of walnuts. Therefore, the application of nitrogen fertilizers should be strengthened, and potassium fertilizers should be applied reasonably at the same time. The base fertilizer should mainly be slow-acting organic fertilizers.

How to apply walnut base fertilizer

Walnuts can be fertilized with base fertilizer after harvesting in autumn, when the soil is deep plowed and greened. The specific time is generally from September to October every year.

Walnut base fertilizer can be applied using hole-shaped, radial, or ring-shaped methods. Apply the fully decomposed and diluted fertilizer to the renovated soil, cover it with soil, and water immediately after application.

How much base fertilizer should be added to walnuts

Apply 5-10kg of farmyard manure as base fertilizer for each walnut plant. As the plant grows, the amount should be increased year by year. The fertilizer needs to be decomposed in advance and raw fertilizer cannot be used directly.

How to apply fertilizer to walnut

Walnuts need 2-3 top dressings every year. The first time is before flowering or at the beginning of leaf expansion, when nitrogen fertilizer accounts for 50% of the annual total. The second time is from May to June, with nitrogen fertilizer accounting for 30% of the total. The third time is at the end of July, with phosphorus and potassium fertilizers accounting for the main amount. It is advisable to apply top dressing in holes.
