How to propagate maple trees and what to pay attention to

Maple tree propagation method

There are only two ways to propagate maple trees, namely cutting propagation and seed propagation. Compared with these two methods, their survival rates are relatively high, but the cutting propagation method takes less time.

Maple tree seeds can be propagated, which is also a relatively common method of propagation. They are generally sown in the spring of each year and require sufficient nutrients.

Maple trees reproduce naturally by sowing. When planting, the seeds need to be collected in advance and germinated.

Maple tree breeding time

It is difficult for maple trees to take root through cuttings. The best time to do so is in summer and autumn, which is around June and July each year. During this period, there is more rainfall and higher humidity, which can increase the survival rate of maple trees.

Maple tree propagation method

Maple cutting propagation

The most commonly used method for maple tree propagation is cuttings. When selecting cuttings, it is best to choose new branches with full buds, strong, vigorous, and disease-free.

Maple tree seed propagation

It is common to grow maple seedlings by seed planting. Generally, sowing is done in spring. Compound fertilizer is applied before sowing, and pests and diseases are controlled in time. Basically, thinning can be done when the maple seedlings grow to about 4 cm. The temperature should not be below 10 degrees as much as possible.

Maple tree propagation precautions

When propagating maple trees, you need to pay attention to watering them in time during their growth period, especially when the temperature is relatively high. The soil needs to be kept moist, and pruning work needs to be performed frequently during maintenance.
