How to propagate chrysanthemums and precautions

Chrysanthemum propagation method

There are three ways to propagate chrysanthemums: division, sowing and cutting. All three methods grow very fast, and the planting method is also very simple and quick.

Chrysanthemum seed propagation

Chrysanthemum seeds can be propagated, but they need to be collected before planting, and can only be planted in the second year. Chrysanthemums reproduce naturally by sowing, and they need to be planted in loose and breathable soil, so that they grow faster.

Chrysanthemum breeding time

Chrysanthemums are planted from April to June every year, so the survival rate will be relatively high. It is recommended to use cutting propagation for planting. As long as a suitable growth environment and good ventilation environment are provided, the growth rate will be faster, which is conducive to its growth and development.

Chrysanthemum propagation method

Chrysanthemum division propagation

When propagating chrysanthemum by division, generally after it blooms, when the soil in the pot is relatively dry and needs to be changed, move the plant out of the pot, then separate the tender branches outside the old roots of the plant with the roots, pick off all the leaves near the roots, leaving only the top 3-4 leaves and then plant them separately in the prepared soil.

Chrysanthemum cutting propagation

When propagating chrysanthemums by cuttings, you need to cut the branches in the middle, leaving a terminal bud on each branch, then soak them in water with rooting powder, and then directly cut them into loose, breathable soil.

Chrysanthemum seed propagation

The main method of propagation through seeding is to collect the seeds, store them and wait until the spring of the following year to sow them. When sowing, choose loose and breathable soil.

Hydroponic chrysanthemum propagation

To grow chrysanthemums hydroponically, you need to cut branches with better growth from healthy plants, cut them into 6-10cm lengths, remove the leaves at the lower end and treat them with rooting agents. Then, insert them into a foam board with 3-4cm of the lower end exposed, and place them in a hydroponic container filled with water.

Chrysanthemum breeding precautions

When propagating chrysanthemums, you need to pay attention to using loose, fertile, and well-drained soil for planting, and there must be sufficient sunlight and a good ventilation environment, which is more conducive to its growth and development.
