How to propagate Brazilian wood and what to pay attention to

Brazil wood reproduction method

There are three methods of propagating the Brazilian tree: cuttings, division and sowing. The most commonly used method is cuttings. After flowering, the Brazilian tree will bear fruit and leave seeds, so the Brazilian tree can also be propagated by sowing. However, cuttings grow the fastest and can take root in potted plants in 3-4 weeks. Division takes a little longer to root, sometimes taking 2-3 months.

Brazil wood breeding time

The rubber tree is often propagated by cuttings, generally from May to August each year. The temperature at this time is suitable and the air humidity is high, which is suitable for the branches to take root and the reproduction survival rate is high.

Brazilian wood propagation method

Propagation of Brazilian wood by cuttings

1. Cuttings: Choose thick trunks with a diameter of 6-10 cm as cuttings for the rubber tree, but trunks over 10 cm are also acceptable. However, the trunks must be kept fresh, and the color of the bark should be light yellow.

2. Substrate: According to the growth habits of the rubber tree, the cutting substrate can be river sand, vermiculite or moss. The depth of the substrate is about 30 cm. Remember to disinfect it before cutting.

3. Cuttings: Insert the cuttings into the substrate with a depth of about 10-25 cm. Of course, the depth is mainly related to the firmness. If the height of the cuttings reaches more than 1 meter, other main methods can be used to fix them for the firmness of the cuttings.

Seed propagation of Brazilian wood

The seeds of the rubber tree are difficult to harvest, and it takes a lot of time from sowing to growth, so the rubber tree is generally not sown by seeds.

Propagation of Brazilian wood by leaf cuttings

The leaf cuttings of the Brazilian wood are made by taking complete and healthy leaves and inserting them into a sterilized substrate. They will take root in about two months and can then be transplanted. After about 40 days, new buds will sprout at the junction of the roots and leaves, and grow up to become independent plants.

Precautions for propagation of Brazilian wood

After the rubber tree is cut, it is necessary to water it in time to keep the soil moist. At the same time, avoid the sun around noon. New shoots can be seen in about 30 days. When the new shoots are 5-10 cm in height, they can be transplanted.
