Desert Rose Cultivation Methods and Precautions

Desert Rose Cultivation Methods and Precautions

Spring is coming soon, and spring is an ideal time to buy desert roses because the climate is suitable and the newly purchased desert roses can bloom quickly and the flowering period can last throughout the year. However, the key to making the desert rose continue to bloom is to master the cultivation methods and precautions of the desert rose.

1. Water control

Desert rose is different from other plants. It has thick stems and a root system that lacks capillary roots, so it should not be watered frequently. In a well-ventilated open-air or window environment, wait until the soil in the pot is completely dry before watering it thoroughly, ensuring that the soil is breathable and the flowerpot is of appropriate size.

If the indoor ventilation is poor and a large flowerpot is used, you can determine the timing of watering by gently pinching the trunk, and then water thoroughly when the trunk becomes slightly soft. The trunk of the desert rose is hard when it has sufficient water, which can be used as a basis for judgment. In poorly ventilated environments, watering may only be necessary once a month.

2. Less fat

Desert roses need fertilizers with high phosphorus content to promote bud formation and thickening of the trunk. Excessive fertilization will cause the branches to stop growing and affect flowering. It is generally recommended to fertilize once a month to keep the plant growing healthy and blooming.

3. Get more sun exposure

Desert rose likes strong light and needs full-sun maintenance, at least eight hours of direct sunlight a day to promote continuous flowering. Avoid shading or placing it in a dark place to prevent the plant from growing branches without blooming.

4. Notes

When caring for the plant at home, it is recommended to use a small flower pot. If conditions permit, you can choose a ceramic pot and use a short and fat flower pot. Add 50% to 70% particulate matter to the soil to enhance air permeability and water permeability, and prevent water accumulation from causing root rot. Desert rose likes high temperature, and the maintenance temperature should not be lower than 15 degrees. If it is lower than ten degrees, yellow leaves may appear and leaves may fall off, and if it is lower than five degrees, it is easy to get frostbite.

In addition, pruning is also the key to promoting more flowering of desert roses. If the plant has fewer side branches, pruning can be used to promote the growth of side branches, and applying phosphorus fertilizer can quickly induce flowering.
