Cultivation Techniques of Pear Bonsai

How to make a pear tree bonsai

1. Branch selection: Choose mountain pear, autumn pear, pear tree and other rootstocks. The rootstocks can be old pear trees in the orchard and old stumps of short and peculiar-shaped mountain pear plants dug from mountain streams. After artificial propagation, the branches and roots are moderately pruned and shaped, and pear varieties with good varieties and easy fruiting are selected as scions, and grafting is carried out by bud grafting and branch grafting.

2. Maintenance: The pear tree has a well-developed root system and has low requirements for the environment. It is cold-resistant and heat-resistant. It likes warm, humid and sunny places. If there is insufficient light, it will affect the formation of flower buds. The pear tree can be potted with loose, fertile, well-drained neutral sandy soil.

3. Water and fertilizer: Pear tree leaves are sensitive to water. They will wilt or even fall off if there is insufficient water supply. Pear trees can be subjected to short-term drought treatment in mid-to-late June to promote the differentiation of flower buds. Watering should be properly controlled in autumn, and the potting soil should be kept free of ice in winter. Pear trees require a relatively large amount of fertilizer. Apply sufficient base fertilizer when potting, and apply decomposed organic liquid fertilizer once every half a month during the growing season.

4. Shaping: The direction of the branches of pear trees can be adjusted by pulling, twisting, bending, and pruning, controlling vigorous branches and promoting the growth of short branches to form a potted plant with a short tree body, strong fruits, and a simple and vigorous shape, which is highly ornamental.

Cultivation Techniques of Pear Bonsai

Pear trees are highly adaptable to the environment and are suitable for planting in a warm, humid, sunny environment. They need to be provided with sufficient light during their growth period and maintain good ventilation. If the maintenance environment is dark, the branches will not grow fully and the flower buds will not form fully. In winter, you need to take measures to keep warm and water as little as possible.

Things to note when cultivating pear bonsai

Pear tree bonsai can be kept at home, but for indoor potted plants, first of all, they must be well ventilated, and not watered too much. They should be watered when dry and wet, and it is best to get some sunlight.

1. Use soil

Pear trees prefer soil with good air permeability and water permeability. The soil should be deep, fertile, and have a pH close to neutral.

2. Pruning

In spring, from March to April, you can prune the branches that do not bear fruit for pear bonsai. In June, you can cut off the weak and dense flower buds. In autumn, you can cut off the dry and yellow branches and leaves to increase the light transmittance of the plant. In winter, you can cut off the diseased and weak branches.

3. Repotting

The timing for repotting pear bonsai varies depending on the species of tree. It is generally done in spring and autumn when the plant grows slowly, which causes minimal damage to the plant.

4. Watering

Watering the pear tree should be done on schedule. If it has just sprouted, water it in small amounts to promote the growth of branches, leaves and flower buds. Make sure there is enough water when it blooms and fruit sets, and water it frequently. More water should be added half a month before harvesting the fruit to increase the sugar content. After the harvest, water it once together with fertilizing. Pay attention to drainage during the rainy season and do not allow water to accumulate for a long time.
