Introduction to the growth of betel nut

Betel nut is native to Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Vanuatu and Micronesia. It is mainly produced in Guangdong and Hainan in my country, and is also cultivated in southern Yunnan, Fujian, Guangxi and southern Taiwan.

Growth characteristics of betel nut: It likes to grow in places below 300 meters above sea level and is suitable for planting in valleys and on both sides of rivers. It is a tropical rainforest crop and is not very demanding on soil, but fertile soil is best.

It takes three years for betel nut to bear fruit from planting. The first batch of fruits are generally smaller, while the second batch is much larger than the first batch. Normal production can be resumed after four years.

Growth rate of betel nut

Growth process: Choose fertile soil, renovate it in advance, apply base fertilizer, select strong seedlings for planting, pay attention to the spacing, and after survival, cut down the shrubs in time to keep the soil moist, which is conducive to the growth of betel nut. Weeding is required 2-3 times a year to promote the growth of the root system.

The betel nut harvesting period in Hainan is generally from August to around April of the following year.

Temperature management: The suitable growth temperature of betel nut is 25 to 28 degrees.

Fertilization management: Base fertilizer can be applied to betel nut when planting, and topdressing is needed in time during the growth period, mainly nitrogen fertilizer. Mature trees have a greater demand for potassium, so potassium fertilizer and phosphorus fertilizer should be applied mainly, with nitrogen fertilizer as a supplement.
