Environmental conditions and requirements for the growth of shallots

Scallion is a common seasoning vegetable with a spicy taste. It has a long history of cultivation in my country and is planted over a wide range. Scallions generally prefer to grow in cool, humid and well-lit places. They have a certain degree of cold resistance and are afraid of heat and drought.

Onion growth temperature

Scallions like a cool environment and generally have different temperature requirements in different growth periods. The optimum temperature during germination is 13-20 degrees, and the most suitable growth temperature for the above-ground part is 18-23 degrees. Scallions have a certain degree of cold resistance and can withstand a certain low temperature environment.

Onion growth humidity

Scallions like a humid environment and have a greater demand for water during the growth period. Generally, the most suitable humidity in the environment during the growth period is around 60-70%, and the best humidity in the soil is around 70-80%. Generally, there is no need to water if the soil is moist.

Onion growing soil

Scallions do not have very high requirements for soil and have good adaptability. They are generally more suitable for planting in loose, fertile, well-breathable and well-drained loam or heavy loam, because this type of soil is most favorable for the growth of shallot roots.

Scallion growth cycle and process

Scallions are usually planted in February and March in spring and September and October in autumn. The growth cycle of shallots is relatively short. After planting, it usually only takes two months for the shallots to be harvested, and they can be harvested several times afterwards.
