Tea growing environment conditions and requirements

Tea is a species of the Camellia sinensis tree, which generally grows in areas south of the Yangtze River. It is more commonly found in Fujian, Zhejiang, Yunnan and Anhui. Tea likes light, has a certain degree of shade tolerance, and is more suitable for growing in an environment with diffuse light.

Tea growing temperature

Tea prefers a warm environment. The most suitable growth temperature for tea is between 20 and 30 degrees. The average temperature of the environment must reach 10 degrees. Tea is not afraid of freezing. Tea trees have a certain resistance to low temperatures and can generally withstand temperatures as low as minus 10 degrees.

Tea growth humidity

Tea is afraid of moisture, but tea trees like a humid environment and are afraid of waterlogging. Generally, the growth of tea has high requirements for air humidity, which needs to reach 80-90%. When the air humidity drops to 50%, the growth of tea will be affected.

Tea growing soil

When planting tea, it prefers to be planted in sandy soil with deep soil layer, good drainage, good air permeability and rich in organic matter. In addition, the soil for planting tea should have good water retention capacity, and acidic soil is the best.

Tea growth cycle and process

The planting cycle of tea is 8 or 9 months. Generally, tea is picked during the period from Qingming Festival to National Day in spring. Tea begins to sprout in March and can usually be picked after 4 or 5 months.
