How to grow water lotus in a good potted plant

Water lotus growth conditions

Water lotus prefers a moist, sunny growing environment. It often grows beside sunny mountain ponds, submerged or upright in water, and is suitable for planting in fertile soil rich in humus.

How to grow water lotus

1. Planting environment: Water lotus is a plant of the Nymphaeaceae family. It is suitable for sowing in silt. Before planting, you can apply some base fertilizer, and then fill the silt into the pot. After filling the soil, add 2-3 cm of water. Generally, use a larger diameter flower pot for maintenance, which can leave more space for the floating leaves to receive light.

2. Sunlight. Water lotus is a sun-loving plant and needs to be provided with sufficient sunlight, which can quickly increase the temperature of the water surface and is beneficial to the growth of the lower branches and leaves. After the floating leaves of the plant grow out, it needs more sufficient light to produce the nutrients needed for plant growth.

3. Water. Water lotus should be maintained in water. You can control the watering at ordinary times. When the water level in the pot drops, you can add some water. Note that when adding water, the water temperature should be close to the room temperature.

4. Fertilization. The growth of water lotus needs the support of fertilizer, so apply thin fertilizer frequently. Since its soil is under water, you can use tubular materials to insert into the soil, pour the fertilizer into the straw and add it to the soil.

How to grow water lotus at home

Water lotus has no dormant period. The water temperature is maintained above 16 degrees and it can be sown all year round. Under suitable temperature and light, the time from sowing to flowering takes 50-60 days in spring and about 70 days in autumn.

After sowing the water lotus, the water needs to be changed frequently, change the water twice a day, and it will germinate in about 7 days. It can be exposed to a little sunlight later, but it must not lack water. Soon it will grow fine roots and two tender small lotus leaves. After the leaves are slender, they can be divided into pots and half a pot of soil from the field or river pond mud can be added to the pot.

During the peak growth period of water lotus, if the leaves turn yellow, you can apply a small amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer to it, and apply small amounts of fertilizer frequently. It likes warmth and sunlight and cannot be kept in the shade, so when the temperature is below 16°C, its growth will be very slow, and it should be moved to a solar greenhouse at this time.

Water lotus maintenance precautions

The diameter of the flowerpot for water lily should be between 60 cm and 80 cm. The soil can be natural pond mud or silt in the water body, which is rich in nutrients. Base fertilizer should be applied before planting. Decomposed cake fertilizer or chicken manure can be used as base fertilizer. In addition, it must be exposed to full sunlight during the maintenance process, so it is more suitable for outdoor cultivation.
