How to grow big-leafed arborvitae

Growth conditions of large-leaved radishes

Large-leafed bromeliad likes an environment with sufficient light. It needs to receive more than 4 hours of light every day during the growing season, so it can grow healthily, with lush flowers and leaves. It cannot tolerate weak light and exposure. The suitable temperature for growth is 13-19℃, and the temperature for wintering is 7-10℃. The room temperature in winter should be kept above 10℃ and not lower than 5 degrees.

How to grow large-leaved arborvitae

Large-leafed bromeliad cannot tolerate high or low temperature environments. There is summer drought in Hunan Province, and the temperature is low in winter and spring, even as low as -7°C. Try to stagger the production arrangements as much as possible to avoid affecting the ornamental effect. In summer, shade is provided, dwarfing agents are sprayed, and fertilizer and water are controlled, and the effect is more obvious.

In winter, the fertilizer and water should be properly controlled for the maintenance of the large-leafed arborvitae. It should be placed on the south side of the greenhouse with sufficient sunlight. Ventilation and seedling hardening should be carried out during sunny noons. Multi-layer film covering should be applied when encountering cold currents. In winter, the greenhouse or shed must be kept above 0℃. In extreme weather, thicker cold-proof materials such as straw mats should be added to the multi-layer covering at night.

Large leaves take root and water

When watering the big-leafed bromeliad, you should follow the principle of "watering when the soil is dry and watering when the soil is wet". Especially in winter, you should strictly control watering. Don't water if the soil is not too dry, and never allow water to accumulate.

Fertilization of large leaf bromeliad

When planting large-leaf bromeliads, you can apply base fertilizer, but not too much. If you choose cake fertilizer, do not apply it too close to the roots of the bromeliads. In spring and autumn, fertilization can be controlled once every 10-15 days. In order to make the flowers appear in the best condition when flowering, you can fertilize 1-2 times a month in advance.

Disease and pest control of large-leaf bromeliad

Large-leafed bromeliads are mainly affected by gray mold and powdery mildew, and can be sprayed with methyl thiophanate wettable powder. Insect pests include scale insects and aphids, which can be killed by spraying with dimethoate emulsifiable concentrate. The low temperature and rainy season is a period when the disease is serious, so ventilation needs to be strengthened and watering needs to be controlled.

How to grow big-leaf bromeliad at home

Large-leafed arborvitae is suitable for planting in loose, fertile soil. During the growth period, fertilizer and water should be strictly controlled to maintain the soil slightly moist, control nitrogen fertilizer, increase phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, and potassium dihydrogen phosphate foliar topdressing has a better effect. When the seedlings are 5-6 cm tall, pinch them in time to promote branching.

Precautions for the maintenance of large-leafed arborvitae

If the large-leaf plant takes root and is cultivated in a potted plant, when it grows to a certain height, it needs to be topped and pinched to promote the sprouting of side branches. This will make it grow better and improve its ornamental value.
