How to pollinate dragon fruit

1. Time

When sowing in spring, the flowers usually bloom around 6 pm on sunny days, the anthers begin to split and release pollen, the corolla color begins to fade and close around 12 noon, and the corolla closes at 3-4 pm. Of course, the length and timing of flowering will vary depending on local temperature conditions. Usually 6-10 am is the time when the female flower stigma and male flower pollen are most active and vigorous during their physiological period, so this time is most suitable for artificial pollination. When the pollination temperature is 21-30℃, the pollen germination ability is strongest.

2. Pollination method

Methods of plant pollination: self-pollination, cross-pollination and frequent cross-pollination. It can be sown by wind, self-seeding or mechanical spreading. Among them, most plants are wind-dispersed because wind is everywhere in nature. However, for plants grown at home, we generally choose artificial pollination.

3. Artificial pollination

1. Collection: You can put the container on the dragon fruit buds, tap the flowers gently, and the pollen will fall into the container.

2. Spreading: Choose a brush or other hairy object, dip it into the collected pollen, and touch it to the pistil.

3. Maintenance: The petals of the pistil can be cut off every 1-2 days to prevent the petals from being too thick and moisturizing too well, causing rotting.

If pollination fails, the color of the flower seat will turn yellow and eventually fall off with a slight touch.
