When is the best time to repot lemons?

Lemon repotting time

When the lemon grows up, the plant will become very large and needs to be repotted. A suitable pot should be provided and the time should be chosen well. It is best to choose the early spring season before the sap sprouts, which will have less impact on it. After repotting, it will be in the growth and budding period, which can also help recovery.

Lemon repotting method

1. Prepare the soil

Before repotting the lemon, you need to prepare a larger pot than the previous one to provide space for later growth. The soil should also be suitable. You can use acidic soil with good air permeability and apply a certain amount of base fertilizer in advance to ensure a good supply of nutrients. Before planting the plant, the pot and soil must be disinfected.

2. Remove the pot and prune the roots

Remove the lemon from its original pot. Do not break up the mud at the roots to prevent damage to the root system. Only remove the old soil on the outside and prune away the dead and old roots appropriately, leaving only the roots that are growing vigorously and have strong absorption capacity.

3. Planting in pots

Fill the prepared soil into the flowerpot, then straighten the lemon tree and plant it in the center of the pot. Fill in the remaining soil, compact the new soil near the edge of the pot, and water it thoroughly until water flows out of the pot.

Notes on repotting lemons

After the lemon is repotted, it is necessary to carry out post-care. Place it in a ventilated, semi-shaded place and wait for the plant to adapt. Remember not to place it in direct sunlight to avoid withering of the leaves. After it takes root, you can slowly increase the light intensity until it is maintained in full sunlight.
