How to propagate leaf cactus

How to propagate leaf cactus

1. Cutting method

This is its main method of reproduction, with a high survival rate and relatively simple operation. The main steps are as follows:

1. Time: As long as the temperature is suitable, it is fine. Generally speaking, it is fine from March to October, but it is best from May to July.

2. Substrate: The main requirements are that it should be breathable and nutritious. Sandy soil rich in humus can be used.

3. Cuttings: Choose more mature branches that are one to two years old. Cut it into small pieces of 15 to 20 cm in length, each with several nodes. Then proceed to prune, cut the top flat, cut the bottom into an oblique end, and cut off the leaves of the two lower nodes, as well as some of the leaves at the top. After processing, place it in a cup of water, let the water submerge one or two nodes at its lower end, soak it for two days, then take it out and dry it.

4. Cutting: Place the substrate in a container and moisten it with water. Then use a small wooden stick or other tool to make a few holes in the substrate and insert the cuttings so that one-third to one-half of the entire cutting is submerged in the soil. The substrate is then compacted and covered with a plastic bag.

2. Grafting

Grafting is also a commonly used method. This can be done with semi-lignified leaf cactus branches and cacti. First, use a blade to peel off part of the bark of the branch. Choose another cactus about one centimeter in size, cut off a piece in the center of the bottom, and then insert the branch into it. Then place it in a ventilated and bright place for maintenance.
