How to grow geranium

How to grow geranium

1. Lighting

When caring for geraniums, you need to pay attention to giving it plenty of sunlight. In winter, spring and autumn, it can be maintained in full light. In the hot summer season, we can block about 30% of the light to help it survive the high temperature.

2. Soil

Geraniums have very strict requirements on the soil, which must be loose, fertile and well-drained. We can use peat or a mixture of leaf mold, fine sand and perlite for daily maintenance. It must have a strong ability to retain water and fertilizer.

3. Water

Geraniums require sufficient water, and the soil in the pot should be kept slightly moist. When watering, we can keep it moderately dry to prevent water accumulation and root rot. During the maintenance process of geranium, spring, autumn and winter are its vigorous growth periods, and the high temperature in summer is its dormant period. During the dormant period, watering and fertilizer should be reduced.

4. Fertilization

Geranium requires sufficient fertilizer. We can give it a thin fertilizer water once a week, except for the dormant period.

5. Notes

Geraniums need to be pruned frequently to maintain their beautiful shape. It is relatively prone to diseases and pests, such as greenhouse whiteflies and some fungal diseases, so we must observe it at all times during the maintenance process. Once we find the early stages of diseases and pests, we can control it by pruning, removing, etc. to prevent it from spreading.
