Is it better to plant chives with seeds or roots? What should you pay attention to after replanting?

1. How to plant well

There are two methods of reproduction. One is sowing by seeds and the other is transplanting by roots, and each method has its own advantages and disadvantages. Among them, seed sowing and seedling raising are mostly used when planting on a large scale. Although the seedling raising time is relatively long and transplanting and fixing are required, the advantage is that the harvest period is also long, and it is easy to manage in the later stage and the growth is also very good.

Old roots are often used for transplanting when growing crops at home. Its advantage is that it can save a lot of time on sowing and seedling raising. After planting, the leek will grow faster and can be harvested as soon as possible. However, the disadvantage is that the harvesting period will be limited, and the quality of the leeks will be affected over time, and they will need to be replanted later.

2. What should I pay attention to when replanting?

1. Prune old roots: Replanting means using old roots for reproduction. The first thing to pay attention to is to prune the old roots. After digging them out, cut off some of the overly long fibrous roots, diseased roots, old roots, and dead roots, and only keep about 5 cm of old roots. This way, the plants will absorb water and nutrients better in the later stages after pruning, thereby sprouting new roots faster, which is beneficial to their growth.

2. Pruning leaves: In addition to pruning the roots, you also need to prune the leaves. Especially for some leaves that are too long, two-thirds of them should be cut off, otherwise a lot of nutrients will be lost after planting, which will affect germination.
