How to make the leaves of Christmas cactus thicker

How to make the leaves of Christmas cactus thicker

1. Lighting

It is a short-day plant. If the light time is too long, it will affect its flowering. Therefore, if the light is strong during the day and strong indoor light at night, you need to block it appropriately and rotate the direction of the flower pot every half a month to ensure even light. After autumn, it will begin to form flower buds. At this time, it should be moved to a sunny place, but the temperature difference between day and night should not be too large.

2. Temperature

The most suitable temperature for its growth is between 15 and 22 degrees. Therefore, when the temperature changes suddenly in autumn, you should place it outside to get more sun. This will promote the growth of flower buds and make the leaves thicker. At night, you should put it indoors to keep warm and reduce the temperature difference between day and night.

3. Fertilizer and water

It enters a dormant period in the summer, so you cannot water or fertilize it too much at this time, otherwise it will affect the leaves. After autumn, you can increase the amount of water and fertilizer, but do not apply too much nitrogen fertilizer to prevent the plant from growing too tall.

4. Pruning

It is very resistant to pruning. During the bud formation stage, the overly long branches and overlapping branches should be cut off, otherwise the leaves will gradually become thinner. In addition, during its bud formation period, in order to make it bloom more, you can also cut off some weak buds. Then when the flowering period ends in February to March, it will enter a dormant state. At this time, you need to cut off the remaining flowers and trim the flower shape. In spring, control the water and fertilizer, let the soil in the pot slightly dry, and just spray water on it frequently, so that the leaves can continue to be thick.
