The secret to making geraniums, petunias, and bougainvilleas bloom is easy to learn

1 meter diameter petunia

Huahua always thought that it was amazing if petunias could grow out of the pot. But when she looked at other people’s petunias, she found that just one pot could bloom into a large flower cluster with a diameter of 1m. It was really scary!

The secret to growing petunias to a diameter of 1 meter:

1. Big Sun

If you want your petunia to grow out of the pot, you must ensure sufficient light. Petunias should receive at least 8 hours of light every day. The more light they receive, the more flowers they will bloom and the easier it will be for them to bloom out of the pot!

2. Topping and pinching

If you want the petunia to grow out of the pot, you must top and pinch the petunia to remove the apical dominance and allow it to produce more side branches, which will make it very easy to grow out of the pot!

3. Add some homemade fertilizer

If you want your petunia to grow vigorously and bloom more, you can feed it some homemade fertilizer, such as rice water, fish tank water, fish intestine water, etc. Fertilize it about once every 10-15 days. Over time, the petunia will absorb enough nutrients and bloom more and more!

4. Cutting propagation

If you want your petunias to bloom everywhere, you need a big flowerpot. The more plants in the pot, the better. So how can you get more petunias? Let’s do cuttings!

(1) The young shoots pinched off from the top of the petunia can be used as cuttings.

(2) Mix garden soil and perlite (vermiculite) in a 1:1 ratio to make nutrient soil. Then water it thoroughly and use scissors to poke a hole on the surface of the soil.

(3) Place the petunia shoots in the hole and cover them with soil.

(4) Place the flower pot in a cool and ventilated place. Water the pot when the soil is dry. It will take about 15-20 days for the roots to grow and you can put the flower pot back in the pot.

Lollipop Hibiscus

Huahua especially likes to eat lollipops, but eating lollipops can easily make you fat, so why not grow the flowers at home into lollipops!

How to grow hibiscus into a lollipop:

1. Choose a small hibiscus branch that has bloomed for cuttings, because the branches that have bloomed contain more nutrients and are easier to root.

2. Insert the small hibiscus branches directly into loose and breathable nutrient soil. The cutting soil can be made of perlite, vermiculite, etc. After about 2 weeks, the cuttings of the small hibiscus can take root.

3. After the rooting, plant the small hibiscus in a pot and place it in a cool and ventilated place for 3-5 days. After that, you can move it to the sun for normal care. After one week of normal care, remove all the leaves on the lower part of the main trunk of the hibiscus branch, leaving only the top.

4. When the main trunk grows to about 20 cm, you can transfer the small hibiscus to a large pot. You can add some slow-release fertilizer to the potting soil, and after 2-3 months of maintenance, the main trunk will be able to grow to more than 1m. During this period, as long as side buds grow, break them all off and only keep the three buds at the top.

5. The height of the trunk can be determined according to the wishes of each flower lover. Because the trunk is relatively slender, you need something to support it. You can find a relatively hard stick or bamboo pole, tie it inside the flowerpot, and tie it up.

6. After the main trunk grows to the height you like, start letting the side branches grow. When 6-8 side branches grow, top the hibiscus to make it lose its apical advantage. Once the main trunk loses its top, the side buds will start to grow wildly. Basically, they need to be pruned once a month. It is best to prune them into an oval shape. After repeating this for 3 months, the lollipop shape will be a success!

7. When the small hibiscus begins to form flower buds, apply more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to allow the small hibiscus to grow more flower buds and bloom more. In this way, a lollipop-shaped small hibiscus is successfully grown!

Geraniums in full bloom

When Huahua saw the geranium for the first time, she was almost stunned. There were actually people who could grow such big geraniums. This was truly an expert among experts!

The secret to a full bloom of geraniums:

1. Adequate lighting

When the temperature is high in summer, geranium will enter a short dormant period. At this time, it should be placed in a cool and ventilated place for maintenance; but at other times it must be placed on the south balcony or south windowsill to receive sufficient light so that it can bloom more.

2. Keep pinching

If you want the geranium to bloom full of flowers, you need to constantly pinch the tops of the flowers to allow them to grow more side branches so that they can grow fatter and rounder!

3. Cutting propagation

Geraniums can be propagated by cuttings.

(1) Prune the branches from the geranium mother plant and cut them short, leaving 2-4 leaves on each branch.

(2) Huahua chose perlite as the soil for cuttings because the roots of geraniums grown from perlite are relatively strong and cause less damage to the roots.

(3) Insert the pruned branches into the soil and water them until the water level is roughly the same as the height of the perlite.

(4) Place the grafted branches in a cool and ventilated place for 2-3 days to slowly grow, then move them to a ventilated place on the south balcony so that they can get sunlight. In order to promote the rapid rooting of geranium branches, you can put a black plastic bag on the outside of the cutting cup. It basically took root in 1 month.

Bougainvillea for modeling

A few days ago, Huahua’s friend went out traveling and sent me a picture of bougainvillea. Huahua wanted to run over to take a look at that moment. Why is this bougainvillea so beautiful?

How to shape bougainvillea:

1. Twisting the branches of bougainvillea

Choose softer branches of bougainvillea and bend them into the shape you want.

2. Give Bougainvillea roots

The roots can be lifted every time the bougainvillea is potted. Bury part of the root system in the soil to allow it to continue to grow new roots, while the roots exposed on the ground can be trimmed appropriately, cutting off the thinner ones and leaving the thick ones. In this way, you will get the bougainvillea root system with various strange shapes.
