How and when to plant turnips?

Suitable planting time for turnips

Turnips are suitable for planting in autumn every year, and the specific planting time is about August to September, because turnip seeds need to be treated with low temperature before germination. Because the temperature in autumn is gradually decreasing, it can meet the conditions for turnip seeds to germinate, and before planting turnips, the seeds need to be disinfected to reduce the chance of turnips suffering from diseases and pests.

Turnip planting methods and key points

1. Soil Preparation

The soil for turningip planting should generally be loose, deep, fertile sandy soil that is convenient for drainage and irrigation and close to a water source. After selecting the soil, it should be carefully cultivated and sprinkled with enough farmyard manure.

2. Seeding and seedling raising

Turnips are usually grown by two seedling raising methods: direct seeding and row sowing. August to October is the suitable time for raising turnips. You should choose turnip seeds of better quality for seedling raising. During the seedling raising process, you should decide the number of seeds based on the planting area.

Points to note when managing turnips

1. Fertilization: Within 30 days after the turnip is planted, be sure to apply an appropriate amount of farm manure and urine water, and then apply it again after about 10 days. This can increase the growth rate of the turnip stems and leaves, and then apply urea again in October-November.

2. Watering: During the growth process of turnips, in order to promote the growth of turnips, it is necessary to water the turnips appropriately in time. Watering too frequently will cause serious water accumulation at the roots of the turnips.
