How to grow potted violets

How to grow potted violets

1. Choose the variety

For potted plants, first choose a good variety, with dwarf double-petaled varieties being the best. During the seedling stage, choose those with light green leaves, oblong shape, and large notches on the edges.

2. The size of the flower pot should be appropriate

When choosing a flowerpot, it is best to choose one with a diameter of about 25 cm. Then prepare the culture soil and disinfect it appropriately. Then apply base fertilizer at the bottom of the pot and plant 3 plants in each pot.

3. Choose the right culture soil

When preparing the culture soil, loose, fertile, slightly acidic soil is best, which can be mixed with leaf mold, river sand, etc.

4. Suitable lighting

It likes a semi-shady environment. If there is too little light, its flowers will be fewer and the leaves will be lighter; if the light is too strong, the leaves will turn yellow. So suitable is best.

5. The temperature should be appropriate

The best temperature for its growth is between 18 and 24 degrees. When it is higher than 27 degrees, it will grow poorly, so it needs proper shade in the summer; in addition, in the winter, the temperature cannot be lower than 12 degrees.

6. Watering should be appropriate

After planting it in a pot, water it and place it in a cool place. After about 3 to 4 days, place it in a well-ventilated and well-lit place. But don't water it too much, otherwise the roots will rot.

7. Apply light fertilizer

During the growing season, apply an appropriate amount of compound fertilizer once every 7 to 10 days. When fertilizing, do not apply too much nitrogen fertilizer, otherwise it will produce few flowers. In addition, when it buds, you can add a little phosphorus fertilizer to make the flowers bigger and brighter.

8. Pinching and seed collection

When it grows 9 leaves, it needs to be pinched to promote branch growth. When it grows to 40 cm in height, you need to build a support for it. In addition, if you want to save seeds, you need to harvest the siliques when they turn yellow but have not cracked.
