How to prune a fortune tree when it grows tall

How to prune a fortune tree when it grows tall

1. Pruning branches and leaves

When you find that it is growing taller, the most effective way is to prune the branches and leaves appropriately to prevent it from growing further. First of all, when pruning, give priority to cutting off the branches that grow out, and then leave 4 to 5 buds, or leave branches and leaves about 10 cm, but all the branches and leaves in the upper part should be cut off. Secondly, when pruning it, you cannot just limit yourself to individual branches, but you must prune all the branches. At the same time, those branches that are not growing well must also be cut off, so as to leave more nutrients for the good branches.

2. Maintenance after pruning

1. Water appropriately

After pruning, do not spray water or expose it to rain immediately to prevent the cut ends from rotting. Place it in a cool place in the room. If the light is too bright, provide appropriate shading and reduce watering. When watering, the amount of water should be half of the usual amount, because the leaves are not transpiring at this time, so very little water is needed. If you water it too much, its roots will rot, which will affect its recovery after pruning.

2. Apply fertilizer in time

Before the branches sprout, they need to be fertilized in time, mainly nitrogen fertilizer. And add some fungicide when watering to prevent root rot. After about a month, branches will begin to grow and the leaflets will gradually elongate, and then normal maintenance can be carried out.
