How to grow spinach on the balcony

How to grow spinach on the balcony

1. Planting season:

Spinach can be sown in all seasons, usually from September to October, with better quality. In the north, attention should be paid to keeping warm during planting.

2. Spinach-seedling cultivation

Spinach has an underdeveloped root system and is not resistant to transplanting, so it is usually seeded directly. For home planting, buy fresh seeds grown in the current year. The seeds have a stronger germination ability at 15-20℃, so keep the seeds moist. The specific method is as follows:

① Soak the seeds in potassium permanganate solution for 15 minutes, then soak them in 25℃ water for 10-12 hours, take out the seeds, dry them and sow them.

② To make the seeds germinate better, wrap the seeds with wet cloth and place them in an environment of 15~20℃. Wait until most of the seeds turn white before sowing.

③After watering the potting soil, sprinkle the seeds on the surface and cover with 1 to 2 cm of soil. It will germinate after a week, and water it by spraying before germination. The seedlings grow slowly, and their growth will accelerate after they grow two leaves. Usually water them once every 4 days to keep the soil moist.

④ If the density is high after germination, thin out the seedlings once when 3 to 4 leaves grow. The growth of young seedlings is weak, so they can be sprayed with decomposed organic fertilizer once.

3. Spinach-Daily Management

① When spinach grows to 4-5 leaves, apply decomposed organic fertilizer according to the growth situation to promote growth.

② Spinach needs sufficient water during its growing period. Generally, it should be watered once every 1 to 2 days. When the temperature is too high, water it once in the morning and evening to keep the soil moist.

③The most suitable growth temperature is 15-25℃. It can grow above 0℃, but the growth is slow. It is cold-resistant and can safely overwinter at -10℃.

④ If the density is high after germination, thin out the seedlings once when 3 to 4 leaves grow. The growth of young seedlings is weak, so they can be sprayed with decomposed organic fertilizer once.

4. Spinach-Harvesting

Spinach can be picked and eaten when it grows 4 to 5 leaves and its height should not exceed 30 cm.
