How to grow dahlias

How to grow dahlias

1. Division propagation

Division planting can be carried out after the spring. First, you need to prepare the stored tubers, cut the tubers with buds, plant them in the soil, and cultivate them normally. If planted like this, it will bloom in autumn. The advantages of division planting are high survival rate, economical cost, simplicity and convenience, but the disadvantage is that the reproduction coefficient is not very high.

2. Cutting cultivation

To cultivate dahlias by cuttings, first select plants in good condition, cut off branches with buds as cuttings, and insert them into a soil base with good drainage and sufficient nutrients. The disadvantage of this method is that the survival rate is not as high as that of division cultivation. The later management is more troublesome. From weeding, top dressing, to pest control, no mistakes can be made in order to maintain it well.

3. Seed planting

If you choose the seed planting method, first choose a culture tray. The culture tray is made of sterilized soil with uniform texture and good drainage. Then spread the seeds flat on the soil base and cover them with a layer of fine soil. Finally, cover the entire soil base with a film to create a high temperature and high humidity cultivation atmosphere, and wait for it to germinate.

4. Daily care

After the dahlias grow into mature plants, they need a support pole to support their branches. One reason is to make the flowers look better, and the other is to prevent the flowers from breaking the branches. It is also necessary to provide fertilizer reasonably. It has a relatively large demand for nutrients before and after flowering, so it is necessary to supplement nutrients at the appropriate time to avoid insufficient nutrients affecting the flower shape.
