Clivia miniata

Everyone is familiar with the large-flowered Clivia, which is the most common variety of Clivia. The flowers are large and colorful, ranging from orange to deep red.

When the large-flowered Clivia blooms, one bud has more than 20 to 40 flowers, clustered together like small trumpets, which can rival hydrangeas!

Clivia miniata

The laughing Clivia has slender leaves, and each small flower hangs down like a bell, as if it is smiling at people with its head down.

There are many colors of Clivia, including light yellow, orange, orange-red, etc.

Swamp Clivia

The swamp Clivia is known for its tall size. Its inflorescence usually contains 15-40 small orange-red hanging tubular flowers with green pointed petals in front of the flowers.

Swamp Clivia is easier to grow than ordinary Clivia, especially in summer. When other Clivias grow slowly or even stop growing, it continues to sprout new leaves.

Clivia miniata

The yellow-flowered Clivia has narrow leaves and yellow flowers. It is a relatively rare variety, and the light yellow petals are very round and cute.

Garden Clivia

The blooming period of garden Clivia is very long, and it can bloom from late autumn to winter. The colors range from yellow to red, and the tips of the flowers are green. They droop slightly, but not as much as the weeping Clivia.

How to extend the flowering period of Jun Zi Lan?

Flowering conditions

It usually takes about three years for Clivia to grow from a seedling to bloom, and the number of leaves must reach more than 14. July to August each year is the period of flower bud differentiation, and it can last 15 to 20 days from flowering to falling.

Tips to prolong flowering period

1. Control fertilizer moderately: After the buds of Clivia miniata open slightly, stop applying fertilizer. Although fertilizing will make the flowers bloom better and brighter, growing too fast will also make the flowering time particularly short.

2. Shade and cool down: It is best to maintain a temperature of 25~30 degrees, avoid direct sunlight, and maintain scattered light for a few hours a day. If the temperature is too high and the light is too strong, the flowers will easily age prematurely!

How to care for Jun Zi Lan in summer?

Clivia will enter a semi-dormant state in the summer, so it must be kept indoors in the summer, preferably in an air-conditioned environment.

1. Loosen the soil

Clivia is afraid of being stuffy, so you can loosen the soil when it is dry in summer. Insert the bamboo strips or small shovel diagonally into the inner wall of the pot. Use one hand to hold the bamboo strips in place and use the other hand to rotate the flower pot once.

Note: Do not insert the bamboo stick too deep, just loosen the topsoil!

2. Watering

The most feared thing in summer is too much watering, which will cause root rot, so be sure to water only when the soil in the pot is completely dry. Do not water unless it is dry, and make sure there is no water accumulation on the surface of the pot.

Clivia has well-developed fleshy roots that can store a certain amount of water. If you are worried about water shortage, you can spray water around the plant every day.

3. Lighting

Clivia prefers weak light and is not resistant to high temperatures. Direct strong light will burn the leaves. Remember to provide shade and heat protection in the summer, and place it in a place with bright scattered light.

4. Fertilization

If the temperature at home is low and the Clivia is still growing, you can apply a thin layer of bean cake liquid fertilizer every 20 days. Do not apply fertilizer until the soil in the pot is dry. After dormancy, stop fertilizing.
