1. Pruning during the growing season

Pruning should be carried out in time after budding in spring and before wintering. All unhealthy branches that are not conducive to growth, such as blind branches, old branches, leggy branches, diseased and insect-infested branches, should be cut off, which is beneficial to the overall ventilation and breathing of the plant, and also helps the plant to better receive light; after flowering, the flower stems should be cut off in time to leave 3-5 branches, and the tops and overly dense branches should be cut off to promote the early germination of new branches and axillary buds.

2. Pruning during dormancy

After wintering and before spring budding, cut off most of the thin and soft branches, shorten the front ends of annual branches to 10-15cm long, retain the base, so that the branches are neat and strong. At the same time, cut off the thin and withered branches.

3. Pinch during flowering period

When the spring shoots grow to 4-5 nodes, in order to ensure the lushness of the branches and leaves and prevent excessive growth, the tops of the plants should be pinched to make the plants plump and strong; at the same time, the two pairs of tender leaves on the branches that do not grow flower buds should be removed to facilitate the germination and flowering of other flower branches; in addition, old leaves, excessively long branches and other flower leaves that are not conducive to growth should be removed, and care should be taken not to remove branches and leaves when the soil in the pot is too wet.
