Succulent wearing skirts and spreading pancakesWhen I went out in the morning, the succulents were still like little lotus flowers. When I came back in the afternoon, the leaves suddenly drooped down, especially the succulents with stakes. It was as if they were wearing little skirts, with only a few leaves on the top left looking normal. Do you think only old men wear skirts? Even ordinary succulents will have this situation: the leaves turn down, like a large round pancake. We call it "spreading the pancake". Do flower lovers know what this is going on? The reasons why succulents wear skirts and spread their wings: 1. Varieties: Among succulent plants, there are blue stone lotus, Guanyin lotus, Lu's stone lotus, blue bird, etc. These succulent plants have many leaves and are shaped like lotus. When the weather is hot, the old leaves below are easy to wilt and naturally turn over. 2. Too much water and too little light: The sun is too strong in the summer, and many flower lovers dare not let their succulents bask in the sun. They want to water them when they see the soil is dry. The water in the leaves of succulents cannot evaporate, so they tend to droop. 3. Lack of water and drought: The plant will also wear a skirt when there is less water, but this is more like normal metabolism. The old leaves will gradually dehydrate and droop, and slowly dry up. Summer is the gate of hell for succulents. Flower lovers who feel sorry for succulents should pay attention to every signal they send out, otherwise they will not survive the dog days of summer! Specially for meaty plants wearing skirts and spreading pancakesMethod 1: Sunbathe in the morning and evening, and control water properly! Once you find that the leaves of the succulents in your home have turned down, quickly find out the reason: Is it because they haven’t been exposed to the sun recently? Or too much water? After finding the cause, correct it from the maintenance aspect first. Succulents can still be exposed to the sun in the morning and evening in summer. Just shade them at noon or move them indoors. Flower lovers who don’t know how to control water can insert two bamboo sticks beside the flowerpot. Be careful not to get close to the roots of the succulents to avoid damaging the roots. Pull out a bamboo stick every 1-2 days to check the length of the dark-colored root that is attached to the soil. If it is less than 1 cm, it means that the flowerpot is almost dry and you can water it. If it is more than 1 cm as shown in the picture below, you don’t need to water it. This method is the most gentle and will take effect in about a week. Look at the colorful Echeveria, are its leaves standing up? Method 2: Wrapping method If your succulent plant was originally a small bun and suddenly expands into a pancake, you must be alert. Once deformed, it will be difficult to recover and you must take drastic measures! Use the waterproof tape you use to wrap water pipes at home to gently wrap up the succulents. Note: If the leaves of your succulents fall loose, don't try it anymore, as saving your life is more important! You can also wrap it with toilet paper, which is more breathable and has the same effect~ It will take about a week to take shape. After it is finally fixed into a small bun, you must take good care of it afterwards! Method 3: Remove the lower old leaves Many flower lovers pick the drooping leaves because they think they are ugly. This can easily cause the wounds to become infected and cause fungal diseases such as anthracnose and rot. It is best to water less, and wait for the old leaves on the bottom layer to dry up, then carefully peel them off. This way they can become old stumps! Method 4: Behead and Resurrect For succulents with many leaves that have turned down, you can directly choose to cut off the top and let it grow again. You can use cotton thread, a knife, or scissors. It is best to disinfect the knives by scalding them in boiling water first (let them cool before use). It is best to soak the cut flower heads and plucked leaves in a solution of carbendazim for 10-20 minutes for disinfection. After drying, insert them into a small-mouthed bottle for hydroponics to root them. Note: the stems do not need to touch the water surface, and they mainly rely on the water vapor in the bottle to take root. Don’t give up on the stump after it has been beheaded. Apply a little fungicide on the wound and place it in a cool and ventilated place. Be sure to water it less often. More small buds will slowly emerge later. Just wait and see until it grows into an old stump with multiple heads! Do any of your succulents wear skirts?
