Long-lived Clivia... 30 flowers bloom in a row in summer, why don’t her flowers go dormant!

Long-lived Clivia... 30 flowers bloom in a row in summer, why don’t her flowers go dormant!

Clivia

The flowering period of Clivia is concentrated in winter and spring. When the temperature reaches about 28 degrees, it will enter a dormant period, but if it is properly maintained in summer, it can still bloom.

1. Cool and ventilated scattered light environment

Clivia does not like too strong light, especially direct sunlight. Therefore, in summer it must be placed in a cool and ventilated place with scattered light.

2. Cover the pot with sand to cool down

The soil in the pot of Clivia heats up quickly in summer and can easily burn the roots. So put a large pot outside the Clivia pot, or bury the pot entirely in the sand, and spray water on the sand every day. Maintain a relatively low temperature and humid environment.

3. Rainwater irrigation to prevent root rot

There is more rain in summer, and collecting and storing it for Clivia can help regulate the soil. The temperature is high and the humidity is high in summer. Even if you place it in a cool and ventilated place, you must be careful not to accumulate water to prevent root rot.

4. Appropriate fertilizer to promote flowering

If you want Clivia to bloom, fertilization is necessary. As long as the temperature around the Clivia is around 25 degrees, it will not enter a dormant period. You can apply a thin layer of cake fertilizer water every 15 days or so.

Kalanchoe

Kalanchoe is a flower with a very long flowering period. As long as its growth needs are met in summer, it is not difficult for it to bloom.

1. Control the temperature

Kalanchoe will no longer grow flower buds when the temperature reaches around 35 degrees, so if you want it to bloom, you must control the temperature. Friends who have the conditions can place the Kalanchoe in an air-conditioned room to stimulate the growth of flower buds.

2. Reduce the duration of sunshine

Control the time that Kalanchoe receives sunlight to less than 8 hours a day. When it is not exposed to sunlight, the Kalanchoe must be placed in an absolutely dark environment without any light, and no lights are allowed.

Flower lovers can place the Kalanchoe flowers in their homes side by side, place a chair with a backrest on each side, and drape an opaque black cloth over the back of the chair, hanging it down to the ground. This will both block out the darkness and leave enough space for the top of the Kalanchoe flowers to develop.

3. Control watering

In summer, water evaporates rapidly, and many friends can't control themselves from watering the flowers. However, the leaves of Kalanchoe are very thick and relatively drought-resistant, so it cannot have too much water in the summer. Wait until the soil in the pot turns white before watering it thoroughly.

Geranium

Geranium is the flower most likely to turn black and die in summer. If we make a list of flowers that are bound to die in summer, geranium will definitely be on the list. However, as long as they are properly cared for, summer geraniums will not only not die, but will continue to bloom.

1. Add water to the tray to prevent black corrosion

Summer watering is key to geranium survival. When you see the soil in the pot becomes dry, fill the tray with water. The geranium will automatically absorb the water. This watering method can effectively prevent black rot in geraniums.

2. Shade and ventilation

Geraniums are most afraid of humidity and heat, so it is best not to place geraniums on a closed and airtight balcony in summer. Flower lovers who have the conditions can place geraniums under the shade of trees without light. The temperature here is generally much lower than under the light, and the ventilation is also good.

3. Be careful not to get wet in the rain

Upright geraniums will die if exposed to rain. Flower lovers who grow geraniums outdoors must remember to move the geraniums back indoors or take rain shelter measures in rainy weather.
