How to fertilize azalea

How to fertilize azalea

1. Base fertilizer

Basal fertilizer refers to the fertilizer added to the potting soil during the process of repotting and changing the soil. The fertilizer used can be a slow-release compound fertilizer or a decomposed organic fertilizer. Fertilizers are mainly used to improve the soil and slowly supply nutrients. You can use decomposed bone meal and some slow-release compound fertilizers and mix them into the potting soil.

The base fertilizer used should not come into contact with the roots of the azalea. That is to say, after adding the fertilizer, a layer of soil should be placed on it, and then the azalea should be planted to avoid fertilizer damage.

2. Topdressing

Top dressing is fertilizer applied during the growing period of azalea. It is generally used after flowering, before new buds emerge, and during the differentiation of flower buds. When it finishes flowering, you can apply fertilizer in time to promote the sprouting of new buds and enter a new growth period.

When applying top dressing, use quick-acting fertilizer. The fertilizer can be relatively simple, and the standard for fertilizer effectiveness is speed. As autumn cools down, it is necessary to apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers and control the application of nitrogen fertilizers to promote the differentiation of flower buds.

3. Fertilization principles

Rhododendrons need to be fertilized frequently with thin fertilizers, and the concentration of the fertilizer should not be too high. We can add one tenth of the fertilizer to the water every time we water it.
