What soil is best for growing Christmas cactus

What soil is best for growing Christmas cactus

1. Requirements for soil

(1) The soil should be loose. Such soil makes it easier for plants to breathe, which is beneficial to their growth. Moreover, loose soil is not easy to clump, so the frequency of soil change does not need to be too high.

(2) The soil should contain as many nutrients as possible. This way the plants will grow vigorously without using too much fertilizer.

(3) The soil should have good drainage because the plant is more afraid of waterlogging. The air permeability should also be good to facilitate the development of roots.

(4) According to the characteristics of the plant itself, the soil must be acidic, and the pH value should be between 6.5 and 6.8, which is slightly acidic.

2. Specific preparation method

There are many specific methods, and only a few are listed here. Their effects are generally good.

(1) Mix peat soil with coarse sand. The main components of peat soil are various grasses, leaves, tree roots, etc., which are rich in nutrients. Adding coarse sand will improve air permeability and drainage. So overall, this method basically meets the requirements.

(2) If peat soil is not available, you can also use leaf mold. You can also add some coarse sand. If you feel that the nutrition is insufficient, you can also add some organic fertilizer, bone meal, etc.

(3) You can also use mountain mud, garden soil, and humus soil and mix them in equal amounts. Then add some coarse sand, and then some bone meal. You can also add wood ash to adjust the pH. This method is more troublesome, but also has the best effect.
