How to propagate Christmas cactus

How to propagate Christmas cactus

1. Seeding method

(1) Seed collection: Christmas cactus can only bear fruit after artificial pollination. The seeds will mature around July and August and can be sown directly after picking.

Substrate: It can be prepared with peat soil and perlite in a ratio of two to one. Before sowing, the seeds need to be disinfected.

(3) Sowing and processing: Sow the seeds into the soil and then cover them with a thin layer of soil. After sowing, keep the soil moist. It will germinate about one to two weeks after sowing. However, this method takes a long time to reach the flowering stage, so it is not commonly used.

2. Grafting method

(1) Time: generally in late spring or early summer.

(2) Scion and rootstock: The scion should be selected from the strong stem nodes grown in the current year, and generally two to four nodes should be retained. The rootstock is usually cactus.

(3) Grafting and processing: Make an interface on the rootstock and then insert the scion. Afterwards, place it in a well-lit and ventilated place. The wound will heal in about a week.

3. Cutting method

(1) Time: Sexual activity occurs in spring and autumn, usually in March, April or September.

(2) Materials: It is best to choose healthy and thick leaves.

(3) Cutting and processing: The substrate must be disinfected first. After inserting the material into the substrate, it is important to ensure it is wetted. After about a week or two, it will take root.
