The leaves of the succulent plants are wrinkled. If you continue to water them like this, they won’t survive more than 3 days!

Why are fleshy plants wrinkled?

The wrinkled leaves of succulents are due to lack of water, but watering is useless. Instead, it accelerates the death process of succulents. What went wrong?

1. Insufficient watering, the leaves are not fully watered

In summer, everyone waters succulents very carefully, fearing that dormant succulents will be drowned to death, so they only water them a little bit. In addition, the high temperature causes evaporation quickly, so the water evaporates before it reaches the soil.

2. The soil is not breathable and the roots cannot absorb water

Many flower lovers use peat soil and garden soil to grow succulents, which are neither breathable nor water-permeable. The roots of succulents also become dry. Even if they are watered, they cannot absorb water. If they are watered too much, they will just rot.

3. The flower pot evaporates quickly and dries up immediately after watering

The fastest evaporation in the flower pot is the clay pot. Although it is more breathable, it evaporates quickly and cannot hold water when placed in a ventilated place such as a balcony in summer.

4. Water is poured on the leaves, and the sun focuses and burns the succulents

Many flower lovers are used to pouring water on the leaves, thinking that it can make the leaves drink water faster. However, in summer, the light is strong, and the water drops on the leaves are like a magnifying glass. The sunlight focuses on the leaves, burning the leaves immediately and leaving purple scars.

From this point of view, the wrinkled leaves are due to lack of water, but it is not that simple. How can we make the leaves drink water? Come and learn a few tricks

Repotting and soil replacement

In summer, it is best to use granular soil for succulents, such as chlorite, medical stone, perlite, gravel (preferably disinfected first), etc., mixed with a little garden soil or nutrient soil

In summer, evaporation is fast. Too much water will cause waterlogging, and too little water will not be enough. These stones are not only breathable but also can store water. This can protect the roots from being soaked and rotten, and ensure that the succulents will not die of thirst.

Flower lovers who are still using ceramic pots can change to porcelain pots, especially for small succulents. They are so small to begin with, and any water you pour in a ceramic pot will evaporate immediately. It is time to change the pots.

Timely soaking of the basin

Once you find that the leaves of the succulent are wrinkled, soak the pot immediately to save it. It is best to do it before 10 am or after 7 pm. The temperature is too hot at other times, and the soaking pot will easily turn into "boiled succulents".

Find a plastic basin and add some water, then put the succulents in it. Don’t add too much water, just add enough water to 1/2 of the succulent pot.

Immersing the pot can quickly increase the humidity of succulents, allowing the leaves to drink enough water at once and swell up. This is an emergency method

Moisturizing

This method is more practical for succulents whose leaves require a lot of water, especially Gypsum, Shou, and Kishi among the Haworthias. Their leaves evaporate water quickly and are easily shriveled and wrinkled.

Find a plastic bottle, cut it in half, insert the upper part of the bottle into the flowerpot, and cover the succulents. This will create a simple moisture-retaining greenhouse.

It is best to use a plastic bottle with a large mouth, so that ventilation is good and the food will not be overcooked in hot weather.

The lower part of a plastic bottle can also be used, you can poke a few small holes for ventilation

For smaller succulents, you can use disposable plastic cups, preferably transparent ones, so you can observe the situation in time, otherwise mushrooms will grow.

The main purpose of keeping plants in a greenhouse is to increase the humidity of the environment, reduce the evaporation of water from the leaves, and also provide sun protection in summer.

Spray humidification

It is really difficult to water succulents in summer. If you water the soil, you are afraid of waterlogging, and if you water the leaves, you are afraid of sunburn. Huahua still recommends the spray watering method, which is not only effective but also convenient.

A small spray bottle used at home, preferably one with a better spray effect, a cosmetic spray bottle can spray out mist-like water vapor

Spray the succulent plants in the morning and evening. You don’t need too much. A bottle of 10ml of water can spray a bunch of succulent plants. The main purpose is to increase the air humidity and reduce evaporation of the succulent leaves.
