How to grow Caladium

How to grow Caladium

1. Breeding environment

1. Soil: The main requirements are nutrition, air permeability and drainage. You can mainly use leaf mold or peat soil, mixed with sand, base fertilizer and other materials.

2. Temperature: Caladium likes warmth, and the best temperature is between 18 and 20 degrees. In winter, you need to keep warm and the temperature should not be lower than 12 degrees, otherwise the leaves will be frostbitten.

3. Lighting: Usually, it is enough to provide scattered light. It cannot be too strong, as too much light can cause the leaves to be burned. It can't be too dark, otherwise it will cause excessive growth or wilting of leaves.

4. Watering: The seasons when Caladium has the greatest demand for water are mainly spring and summer, so you can water it more in these two seasons. Starting from late autumn, watering needs to be reduced.

5. Fertilization: Fertilizing once a week is enough. Mainly use nitrogen fertilizer, while taking other elements into consideration.

2. Change the pot regularly

If the soil is not repotted for a long time, it may become clumping and hinder root breathing, so it is necessary to repot regularly. If the soil is unsuitable, change it once a year. If it is relatively suitable, change it every two years. When repotting, you can also trim the roots and cut off the rotten roots.

3. Regular pruning

Pruning is mainly divided into daily pruning and pruning after flowering. Routine pruning mainly focuses on leaves and branches. If you find yellow leaves or dry branches, you need to trim them in time to ensure that the plants are neat. In addition, pruning is required once after flowering to cut off the withered flower buds to prevent them from continuing to consume nutrients.
