Phalaenopsis propagation method

Phalaenopsis propagation method

1. Flower stalk germination method

After the flowers fade, small seedlings are likely to grow on its pedicels. If you cut these seedlings and plant them, they will grow into new plants. We can germinate its flower stalks on our own.

First, we can remove the flowers that have bloomed on the pedicel, disinfect it, and then remove the bracts between the 1st to 3rd nodes to expose the buds. After that, use a toothpick to dip an appropriate amount of germination agent and apply it to the exposed buds. Place it in a relatively shady place and control the temperature between 25 and 28 degrees Celsius. In about 15 to 20 days, small leaves will grow on its buds. After about 3 months, it will grow 3 to 4 leaves with roots. At this time, you can cut it and plant it in a pot.

2. Stem cutting method

In addition to the above methods, it can also be propagated by stem cutting.

The main steps of this method are to first allow the plant to continue growing upwards, and then wait until its nodes have grown to a certain extent, then use sterilized scissors or knives to cut off the upper part with roots, and then plant them in a pot. For the lower part, we can give it proper management, and after a period of time it will grow new buds. If the plant itself is too long, you can cut it every 2 to 3 nodes or every 2 to 3 centimeters, but make sure it has roots, so that its survival rate will be high when planted in a pot.
