How to propagate roses

1. Seed propagation

First, collect the seeds, soak them in water for 1 to 2 days, then mix them with wet sand about 3 times the amount of seeds, put them in a container and keep them moist. Then, when it is time to sow in the spring, take out the seeds, dry them, and when half of them are cracked, you can sow them. The soil for sowing is best mixed in the ratio of leaf mold: garden soil: rice bran ash = 3:5:2. After planting, if given a suitable environment, the seeds will soon take root and sprout.

2. Cutting propagation

If you want to propagate it by cuttings, it is best to use a clay pot with a diameter of 20 cm, or you can choose a common plastic pot. For soil, you can mix rotten garden soil, horse manure and river sand in a ratio of 1:2:2. We usually do cuttings in spring or autumn.

Before cuttings, we must first moisten the prepared soil, just slightly moist. Then, we need to choose branches for cuttings. We should choose healthy semi-lignified branches grown that year as cuttings. Cut them with a clean knife, leaving only 3 to 4 leaves at the top. When inserting, you can first poke a hole with chopsticks, insert the cuttings 3 to 4 cm, compact the soil, and water thoroughly.

If you are worried that it will not take root, you can soak the branches in B12 solution first, and then wait for them to dry before cuttings. After the branches are inserted, it is best to cover the pot with a plastic bag for a few days to keep it moist, and then place the pot in a place with brighter light, but the sunlight should not be too strong. We can spray it with water appropriately, and generally roots will emerge in 2 months. After this, you just need to maintain it normally.
