How to propagate white palm

How to propagate white palm

1. Seed propagation

When using this method of reproduction, be careful to use seeds that have just been picked. If they are stored for too long, they may not germinate.

Before sowing, soak the seeds in water at about 40 degrees Celsius for a few hours. It is best to sow indoors and disinfect the soil in advance. We generally choose loose soil with good drainage, such as river sand and leaf mold. After planting the seeds, cover them with a thin layer of soil and then water them thoroughly. Provide suitable temperature, 20 to 25 degrees Celsius is most suitable, and the suitable humidity is above 80%, so that the seeds will germinate in about 20 days.

After the seedlings grow out, they can be planted in separate pots when they have 1 to 2 true leaves. You can apply appropriate amounts of fertilizer to them for a period of time. Be careful not to apply too high a concentration, as this will be conducive to the healthy growth of the seedlings.

2. Division propagation

This method is its main method of reproduction. The specific operation is: first, safely remove the mother plant from the pot, remove some of the old soil, then find the new buds and root suckers, and use a sterilized sharp knife to divide it into many small plants. Be careful not to damage its roots when dividing. After dividing the plants, plant them in pots immediately. After planting, put them in a relatively shady and humid place for a period of time. You can resume normal maintenance after about a week.

This method is suitable for warmer times, such as autumn and spring. High or low temperatures are not good, and it is usually carried out at the same time as repotting.

3. Tissue culture

This method is mainly used for large-scale propagation. You can use its stems, leaves or inflorescences as explants, then wash and sterilize them, and use hormones such as NAA or 6-BA to induce its bud growth. Be careful not to use too high a concentration of hormones. After rooting, cultivate it for about 1 month. When the seedlings grow to about 2 cm, place them under natural light for hardening. They will emerge after about 10 days.

After that we can transplant it into a flowerpot. Before transplanting, we must prepare the soil in advance, usually a mixture of sand and perlite. After taking it out with tweezers, wash off the culture medium, and then plant it in the pot. At this time, you should pay more attention to the issues of shade and temperature, and you can carry out normal maintenance in less than a month and a half.
