How to grow Dendrobium cuttings at home

How to grow Dendrobium cuttings at home

1. Cutting time

There are not many restrictions on the time for cuttings, and it can be chosen from March to October. Winter is not suitable as the temperature is low and it is difficult to take root.

2. Cutting cuttings

The mother plant for cuttings must be of high quality, in a healthy state, and free of pests and diseases. Select 1-2 year old branches from them, and make the lower incision about 0.2-0.5 cm below the petiole. Cut on a cloudy day or in the morning, and keep the length at 3-5 cm. The scion needs to be full of water so that the wound will heal easily after cutting and the survival rate will be relatively high.

3. Cuttings processing

After cutting it, soak it in disinfectant solution for about 10-15 minutes. After taking it out, rinse it with clean water and then dip it in rooting powder.

Matrix selection

The medium for cuttings needs to be breathable, drainable and loose. It can be prepared with sawdust and organic soil. It should be exposed to strong light before use to ensure that pests and diseases can be removed to avoid trouble later.

5. Take cuttings

Insert the cuttings dipped in rooting powder with the bud eyes facing upwards, and insert them at a slight angle. It does not need to be too deep, just about half of the cuttings. After cuttings, you need to keep the soil moist and spray water to keep it moist. It should not be too dry.
