How to propagate mint

How to propagate mint

1. Seed propagation

First prepare the potting soil, water it thoroughly, then sprinkle the seeds evenly on the soil. You can add a very thin layer of fine soil on top. Keep it moist and place it in a suitable environment. Seedlings will grow in half a month to a month. When the seedlings grow to about 15 cm, you can separate and transplant them into potting soil prepared in advance. As for soil, it is best to choose fertile soil.

2. Hydroponic propagation

Select a sturdy branch 10 to 15 cm long and place it in a cup or bottle filled with water that has been prepared in advance. You can apply a little carbendazim powder on the wound on the branch for sterilization and disinfection. Place the bottle in a warm and suitable environment. New roots will grow in about 10 to 20 days. After roots grow, you can transplant it into a pot. After transplanting, place it in a shady and humid place for a period of time, and then maintain it normally.

3. Rhizome propagation

This method of propagation is generally carried out in late April or August. We must first select healthy small plants without diseases or insect pests from the roots of the plants, then carefully dig them out and plant them in pots immediately. At the beginning, you need to place it in a cool place for a few days to slow down the growth, and then you can carry out normal maintenance.

4. Cutting propagation

This method of propagation is usually carried out in May or June. First of all, we need to select strong branches without diseases and insect pests, cut about 10 to 15 cm, disinfect them, and insert them into the prepared seedbed for cultivation. After roots grow, we can transplant them into the prepared pots.
