How to grow osmanthus

How to grow osmanthus

1. Breeding environment

1. Soil: Osmanthus prefers slightly acidic soil, which can be mixed with humus or peat, garden soil, and sand.

2. Watering: Water less before new shoots grow, water less on cloudy and rainy days, and water more in dry summer. Water in moderation and do not let water accumulate in the potting soil. Water sufficiently in the summer, once in the morning and once in the evening. Use shade measures at noon and spray water all around to achieve a cooling effect.

3. Fertilization: Apply decomposed thin cake fertilizer water once every 10 days after germination. It is suitable to apply compound organic fertilizer in July, and phosphorus fertilizer in September can help it grow and bloom.

4. Light: Osmanthus likes sunlight and receives about 8 hours of light a day during the flower bud differentiation period. In winter, when the temperature is too low and the light is insufficient, it will cause leaves to fall, so appropriate warming measures should be taken.

2. Breeding Methods

1. Seed propagation: remove the shell of the ripe drupes, store them after drying, and then sow them in early spring of the following year. They will take root and sprout when the weather gets warmer.

2. Propagation by cuttings: Remove the tender leaves at the top of the cuttings, cut off all the leaves at the bottom, leaving a pair of leaves at the top, and insert them into the soil. Shade is needed on sunny days.

3. Common diseases

1. Brown spot disease: Remove diseased branches and leaves in time, spray 1000 times potassium permanganate solution, and strengthen ventilation to avoid rain.

2. Leaf blight: The disease is easily aggravated in a high temperature and high humidity environment. The diseased leaves should be cleaned up and burned to avoid increasing the source of infection. The soil should be loosened frequently and watered in time when drought occurs to increase its disease resistance.
