Famous Chinese people from ancient times to the present and the crabapple flower

1. Shi Chong, a famous wealthy man in the Western Jin Dynasty, saw the crabapple and sighed, "If the crabapple could smell fragrant, I would build a golden house to store it." Shi Chong was rich enough to rival a country. He won several rounds of wealth competitions with Wang Kai, the uncle of the emperor at that time. However, despite his immense wealth, he still had the regret that the crabapple had no fragrance.

2. Emperor Minghuang of Tang went up to the Chenxiang Pavilion and summoned Yang Guifei. It happened that Yang Guifei was still drunk and was helped out by a maid. Her hair was disheveled and her makeup was incomplete. Seeing this, Emperor Minghuang laughed and said, “It’s not that the concubine is drunk, it’s that the crabapple tree is sleeping in spring!” Yang Guifei was beautiful, and when she was drunk she became even more charming and attractive, just like the crabapple tree after the rain! Su Shi of the Song Dynasty wrote a poem "Begonia" based on this: The weak east wind brings a bright light, the fragrant mist fills the sky and the moon is turning in the corridor. I am afraid that the flower will fall asleep late at night, so I light high candles to illuminate its red beauty. Once again, the crabapple is artistically compared to Sleeping Beauty.

3. Peng Yuancai of the Song Dynasty said that he had five regrets in his life: "One is that shad has too many bones (thorns), two is that kumquats are too sour, three is that water shield is cold, four is that crabapples have no fragrance, and five is that Zeng Zigu cannot write poetry."

4. In the 37th chapter of Dream of the Red Chamber, Jia Tanchun proposed to invite talented people in the Grand View Garden to form a poetry club. The first meeting was held in Qiu Shuang Zhai where Tanchun lived. The poem they wrote was "Ode to White Begonia", so it was named Begonia Poetry Club.

Six Poems on White Begonia: The First Poem - Guest Under the Banana Tree (Jia Tanchun)

The setting sun shines through the cold grass behind the double doors, and green moss covers the basin after the rain.

Jade’s spirit is as pure as it can be; snow’s flesh and bones are as enchanting as it can be.

Her heart is a little delicate and weak, and her pretty figure is left behind in the moonlight at midnight.

Don’t think that the white fairy can fly away, she accompanies me in chanting the sunset with her affection.

The second poem - Hengwu Jun (Xue Baochai)

Take care of your beauty, close the door during the day, and fill the basin with your own urn.

The rouge washes out the shadow of the autumn steps, and the ice and snow bring out the soul of the dew-covered steps.

Only when you are indifferent can you realize that flowers are more gorgeous; how can jade be without marks when you are too sad?

In order to repay Baidi, I should be clean, but I remain silent as the sun sets again.

The third poem - Master Yihong (Jia Baoyu)

The pale beauty of autumn is reflected on the double doors, and the seven sections of snow gather into a full basin.

When Taizhen comes out of the bath, her shadow is made of ice, while Xizi's soul is made of jade.

The morning breeze does not dispel my thousands of worries, and the night rain adds another trace of tears.

I lean on the painted railing alone as if with purpose, and the sound of the anvil and the sad flute send off the evening.

The fourth poem - Concubine Xiaoxiang (Lin Daiyu)

The Xiang curtain is half-rolled up and the door is half-closed, ice is ground into soil and jade is used as a basin.

Steal three parts of white from the pear blossom and borrow a wisp of soul from the plum blossom.

The fairy in the moon cave sews a white robe, and the resentful girl in the autumn chamber wipes away her tears.

To whom can I tell my shyness silently? I lean wearily against the west wind as the night gets dark.

The fifth and sixth poems - Old Friend on the Pillow (Shi Xiangyun)

First:

A fairy descended on the capital yesterday and planted a pot of Lantian jade.

It is because Frost Fairy prefers coldness, and it has nothing to do with Qiannu's separation from her soul.

Where does the autumn clouds bring out the snow? The rain stains add traces of the previous night.

Fortunately, the poet never tires of chanting, so he will not spend his days and nights in loneliness.

Second:

The steps of angelica dahurica lead to the door of ivy and ivy, which is suitable for corners or pots.

Flowers are hard to find a mate because they love cleanliness, and people are easily heartbroken because of the sadness in autumn.

The jade candle dries the tears in the wind, and the crystal curtain breaks the mark in the moon.

I want to tell my secret feelings to Chang'e, but the corridor is empty and the night is dark.

5. Zhang Ailing also mentioned in "A Nightmare in the Red Chamber" that "the crabapple has no fragrance, the shad has many thorns, and the Dream of the Red Chamber is unfinished". These are the three biggest regrets, which are enough to show the great ornamental value of the crabapple, which is comparable to the shad among fish and the Dream of the Red Chamber in the book.

6. Grandma Bing Xin once wrote an article "Begonia Blossoms", describing her experience of appreciating crabapple blossoms with Mr. Ye Shengtao and recalling her last meeting with Mr. Ye. The crabapple blossoms are used to express the feelings that spring is fleeting and life is short.

7. Mr. Liang Shiqiu also loved crabapples. In his essay "Notes on Flowers", he listed crabapples first to describe and used the most space to praise crabapples. He wrote, "Rows of crabapples are about ten feet high, with green hair and rosy faces, in the stage of charming and alluring spring colors, making people feel as if they have suddenly encountered a stunning beauty." His views on the unique beauty of crabapples are also very insightful. He said, "The crabapple buds are the most colorful. After blooming, the front of the petals are pink, and the back is still dark red. The colors are staggered and well-proportioned. The leaves of the crabapple are also well matched, with bright green and delicate details, giving the overall impression of being petite and gorgeous. I stood in front of the rows of crabapples and couldn't bear to leave for a long time."
