How to grow a golden jujube tree in a potted plant?

The golden jujube tree is a very suitable potted tree. It can bloom and bear fruit and is very ornamental. Moreover, the fruits are edible, sour and sweet and delicious. So how to grow a golden jujube tree in a potted plant? Let’s take a look below.

1. Pot soil

When growing golden jujube potted plants, you need to prepare suitable soil and flower pots for them. Golden jujube likes to grow in loose, fertile, well-ventilated and well-drained slightly acidic soil. It can be mixed with sandy soil, leaf mold and cake fertilizer according to the standard of 5:4:1. The size and depth of the flower pot should be appropriate, and it is best to use a flower pot with small holes to increase drainage and air permeability.

2. Watering

Golden jujube likes moisture and is drought-resistant. In spring and autumn, the watering frequency is about 3-4 times a week. In summer, due to the rising temperature, water evaporates quickly, so the watering frequency should be increased, about once a day. In addition, in order to maintain the humidity of the environment and replenish the evaporated water, spray and sprinkle water around the plant. This method can also cool the environment. When the temperature is lower in winter, the plant will enter a dormant state, and you can stop watering at this time.

3. Lighting

Golden jujube likes light and is not particularly shade-tolerant, so be sure to grow it in an environment with plenty of sunlight. Adequate light can promote photosynthesis of the plant, ensure the quantity and quality of the fruit, and make the golden jujube fruit grow more luxuriantly and taste better.

4. Temperature

Golden jujube likes warmth and is not cold-resistant. When the temperature is below 12 degrees, insulation measures should be taken for it, such as moving the potted plants indoors or covering the potted plants with plastic film for insulation. If the temperature is too low, the plants will enter a dormant state. In summer, when the temperature is above 30 degrees, cooling measures should be taken for the golden jujube. You can spray water around the plants to cool them down.

5. Pests and diseases

Anthracnose and foot rot are two of the most common diseases of golden jujube, and aphids and red spiders are two of the most common insect pests of golden jujube. If the plant suffers from anthracnose, apply less nitrogen fertilizer and use mancozeb , zineb and other drugs to spray on the tree crown, spray twice a month for about 2-3 months; if the plant suffers from foot rot, improve the potting soil environment and ventilation conditions in time, and transfer the plant to a place with better ventilation and drainage conditions. You can use drugs such as carbendazim to treat the plant; red spider mites often appear in the two periods of March to May and September to November, and you can use drugs such as cypermethrin to eliminate insects; to drive away aphids, you should use drugs such as dimethoate to spray the plant.

6. Pruning

In late winter and early spring, the golden jujube can be pruned on a large scale. This pruning should remove all the fruits and retain 4 main branches. When the leaves grow to 10, they can be topped to stimulate the growth of new buds. After the fruits are produced in autumn, the newly sprouted buds should also be pruned to retain nutrients for the fruit.
