The South enters the summer stageTaking Nanjing, Jiangsu as an example, the maximum daytime temperature is close to 30 degrees, and it seems that summer is about to begin. Therefore, friends in the south should start growing succulents to spend the summer. 1. Sunshade The sunlight in the south is quite strong now, so it is best to place the succulents in the shade of the south balcony (windowsill), or use a shade net to block them, providing a relatively cool and weaker sunlight environment for the succulents to spend the summer. Note: Don’t worry about the succulents not looking good in color after being shaded, so you keep them exposed to the sun, as this can easily cause sunburn. Once you get sunburned, it takes a long time to recover. 2. Good ventilation Good ventilation is also an important condition for succulents to survive the summer. Good ventilation can prevent the growth of bacteria, speed up the evaporation of water, and avoid a hot and humid environment. It is recommended that flower lovers in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai and southwestern regions can equip themselves with small fans. Note: For those who like to spray cooling succulents, they must do so in well-ventilated conditions. It is best to blow dry any water droplets that accidentally drip from the center of the leaves. 3. Watering Try to water in the evening or at night. The lack of light and ventilation at night makes it easy for water to evaporate and prevent water accumulation. Note: Do not water at noon or in the afternoon. When watering, be careful not to water the core of the leaves. Otherwise, water will accumulate on the leaves, and direct sunlight can easily cause leaf burns. 4. Prepare loose and breathable soil Soil is also an important condition for succulents to successfully survive the summer. You can mix coarse sand and peat soil in a ratio of 7:3. This kind of soil is loose and breathable and not easy to accumulate water. Note: If you cannot control the watering and like to water more often, you can increase the particles in the soil appropriately to enhance water permeability to avoid water accumulation and root rot. Northern Succulent ColoringNow, the temperature in the north is gradually stabilizing and the light is getting better. At this time, you can move the succulents outside to get some sun and color. 1. Sunbathing First place the succulents on a balcony behind a window and expose them to sunlight, making sure to open the window for ventilation. After about two weeks of adaptation, you can move the succulents to a sunny spot. Note: Avoid moving indoor succulents directly to places exposed to direct sunlight, as this will make it difficult for them to adapt to sudden changes in the environment and lead to sunburn. Try to avoid direct sunlight between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. 2. Watering During this period, the succulents are in a rapid growth period, so timely watering is very necessary. You can use the immersion method and place the flower pot in water for three to five minutes. When no bubbles come out, it means it is soaked. Notice: 1. Reduce or even stop watering on cloudy days, because insufficient light and excessive water will cause the succulents to grow too tall. 2. If you find that the leaves are wrinkled and uneven, it means that the succulent is lacking water. You should water it immediately until water flows out from the bottom of the pot. 3. Temperature difference Light and temperature difference are the two magic weapons for coloring succulents. The temperature difference in spring is about 10 degrees, so if you want to color it, just move the succulents outdoors gradually. Note: Although the temperature in the north is gradually stabilizing, you must pay attention to the weather forecast to avoid frostbite on succulents due to a sudden drop in temperature.
