Five reasons why azaleas die

Five reasons why azaleas die

The growth environment of azalea is poorly ventilated

When growing rhododendrons, you need to keep the environment ventilated and the air fresh. If ventilation is poor, it will lead to a hot and humid environment, which will easily cause azalea to suffer from diseases and pests, which will easily cause the azalea to die.

Therefore, when growing rhododendrons, it is important to keep the environment ventilated. It is also necessary to frequently wash the leaves with clean water and spray water to increase the humidity.

Rhododendron not getting enough light

When growing rhododendrons, they need sufficient light. However, when growing it indoors, firstly, the long-term blooming of flowers will cause the azalea plants to consume a large amount of nutrients, and secondly, poor photosynthesis will result in the azalea being unable to replenish nutrients in time, and the plants will wither and die.

Therefore, when growing rhododendrons, sufficient light should be maintained, but shade is needed in summer to prevent strong light from burning the plants. It can be exposed to sufficient sunlight in the morning and evening, and shaded at noon.

Improper watering of azaleas

Improper watering is one of the causes of azalea death, because azalea has a thin root system and is afraid of waterlogging. If you water it too much, it will cause the plants to drop leaves, and stagnant water will cause root rot, which are important causes of azalea death. When watering azaleas, you should water them moderately, and water them when the soil is dry. In winter, you should strictly control watering and pay attention to keeping the soil slightly moist and the air humidity high.

Overfertilization of azalea

Rhododendron is not tolerant to fertilizer, especially concentrated fertilizer and raw fertilizer. When fertilizing, if some uncomposted raw fertilizer or fertilizer with too high concentration is used, it will easily cause root burn and cause the plant to die. When fertilizing azaleas, it is best to use small amounts but multiple times, and apply some ferrous sulfate. Stop fertilizing in autumn.

Failure to repot azalea in time

Potted plants need to be repotted. If the azalea is not repotted for a long time, the roots will grow more and more, unable to stretch further and insufficient nutrient absorption. Over time, the plant will wither and die, so it is best to repot the azalea in a timely manner, at least once every 3 years, and prune the roots.
