Konjac is a food ingredient rich in nutritional value. It contains a large amount of glucomannan, dietary fiber, various amino acids and trace elements. This ingredient is characterized by low protein content, low fat content, high fiber content, and has strong water absorption capacity and high expansion capacity. Because of these unique properties, konjac has received widespread attention and application in food manufacturing, medicine and industry around the world. So how can we grow konjac to get high yield? 1. Select high-quality varieties Selecting a good konjac variety is the key to ensuring a good harvest. Some of the varieties that performed well include flower konjac, Tianyang konjac, Ximeng konjac, white konjac, Anmo 128, yellow konjac and pearl tooth konjac. High-quality konjac seeds should have normal color, be free of pests and diseases, damage, mildew and cracks, and the seed weight should be between 200 and 300 grams. 2. Grasp the best planting time Konjac is suitable for growing in tropical and subtropical climates. It is shade-tolerant but not tolerant to direct sunlight. The optimal temperature for its growth is 15 to 25 degrees, the effective accumulated temperature needs to be between 2300 and 3000 degrees, and the entire growth cycle takes about 200 days or longer. Based on these conditions, the best planting period for konjac is recommended to be one week after Qingming Festival for seedling raising and after May Day for transplanting to ensure suitable temperature and sufficient growth time. When sowing, make sure the temperature is stable at around 15 degrees. 3. Choose the right soil Konjac prefers deep, organic-rich, loose and fertile sandy soil with a pH between 6.5 and 7.5. Ideal field conditions include a low groundwater table and moderate soil moisture (about 50% to 65%) with good drainage and the ability to irrigate during droughts. 4. Seed treatment before sowing Before sowing, air the konjac seeds for two days. This will help reduce pathogens on the seed surface, promote nutrient conversion through sunlight, and increase germination rate. Before sowing, you can also use special disinfectant powder for konjac to disinfect and prevent seed rot during the planting process. 5. Understand the fertilizer requirements of konjac Konjac is incompatible with chlorine, so chlorine-free fertilizers should be selected when fertilizing. It is recommended to use fully decomposed farmyard manure, organic fertilizer , biological fertilizer, and potassium sulfate controlled-release fertilizer . The ratio of konjac's demand for nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium is approximately 6:1:8, among which potassium is the highest and phosphorus is the least, but the supply of phosphorus is crucial throughout the growth cycle. Konjac has the greatest demand for nitrogen and the least for potassium in the seedling stage, while the opposite is true in the middle and late stages of growth. In addition, it is necessary to supplement trace elements such as calcium, magnesium, manganese, and zinc to promote the healthy growth of konjac. 6. Maintain proper moisture Konjac cannot tolerate stagnant water and prefers a moist soil environment. During the high temperature and strong light period in summer, irrigation should be carried out in time, but water accumulation should be avoided. It is recommended to irrigate in the evening to ensure that there is no obvious accumulation of water in the soil the next morning. As the konjac grows, the amount of irrigation should be reduced after the beginning of autumn, but the soil should be kept moderately moist to prevent premature aging. After a heavy rain, the water should be drained in time to avoid rotting due to rainwater soaking. The above are the key points of konjac cultivation . I hope these suggestions can help you grow healthy and high-yield konjac. If you have other agricultural questions, please leave a message.
