Rubber tree cutting method

Rubber tree cutting method

Cutting time

Rubber tree cuttings should be taken in summer when the air humidity is relatively high, generally from the end of June to the end of July, when the cuttings are more likely to survive.

Selection of cuttings

The quality of cuttings directly affects the survival rate of cuttings, so it is necessary to choose suitable cuttings. Generally, thick branches that grow every other year and whose surface is not completely lignified are selected as cuttings. This type of branches has sufficient nutrients, is easy to root, and has strong disease resistance. On the contrary, if you choose branches that have already become woody, it will be difficult for them to survive.

Preparation

You need to prepare an alcohol lamp, several sterilized cans (boiled with water), and potting soil or a wooden box (the length of the wooden box depends on the number of ears of corn, and a depth of 15 cm will be enough).

Before cutting, spread 5 cm of coarse river sand in the container, then spread a layer of 10 cm of fine river sand, and water it enough for later use.

Use plastic cloth and wire to make a cover that is larger than the container to keep moisture after cuttings.

Procedure

Cut the strong branches of the rubber tree into 12~15 cm, then burn the cut parts on an alcohol lamp (or scald them in boiling water) until the rubber tree no longer sheds white branches and leaves.

Cut off the extra leaves on the branches, leaving only 2 to 3 leaves, to avoid consuming excess nutrients.

Insert the branches into the water and place them in a sunny place. Spray water on the leaves 2 to 3 times a day and change the water every 2 to 4 days. White roots will grow in 8 to 10 days. (Hydroponic rooting can improve the survival rate of cuttings)

When the hydroponic roots grow to 3 to 5 cm, insert the branches into the prepared potting soil at a depth of 7 to 9 cm, keeping the branches upright. After cuttings, cover with plastic to keep moist. Spray with clean water once in the morning and evening every day.

It will take about half a month to grow fixed roots. Wipe off the excess buds, add some fertilizer and water, and gradually move from a cool place to full light. New leaves will gradually grow!
