How and when to plant short beans

How and when to plant short beans

Short beans are a common vegetable . They are rich in protein, multiple vitamins, trace elements, etc. and are widely cultivated in all parts of China. If you want to get high yields when growing short beans, you must master the planting time and methods. The following editor will introduce the planting methods and time of short beans. Let’s take a look.

1. Planting time of short beans

1. Spring planting

It is usually carried out from the end of March to the beginning of April, when the temperature gradually rises, which is conducive to the growth of short beans. In early spring, when the temperature is stable above 10 degrees, you can start sowing.

2. Summer planting

Some areas are also suitable for growing short beans in summer, generally from late June to early July. However, it should be noted that the summer is hot and rainy, so drainage and shading work must be done well.

2. Planting method of short beans

1. Plot selection

Choose fertile, breathable and well-drained land for planting. Short beans are afraid of waterlogging, so ridges should be made before planting to facilitate drainage. At the same time, choosing a plot with sufficient sunlight is conducive to the growth, flowering and fruiting of short beans.

2. Land preparation and fertilization

Before sowing, deep till the soil and fertilize it. Apply an appropriate amount of base fertilizer, mainly farmyard manure, such as fermented soil fertilizer, chicken, duck, goose manure, pig manure, etc. Compound fertilizer can also be used as base fertilizer. When making ridges, first apply enough fertilizer in the furrows, and then make ridges.

3. Planting seeds

Soak the short bean seeds in clean water overnight to increase the germination rate. When sowing, adopt the hole sowing method, sow 2-3 seeds in each hole, with a row spacing of about 60 cm and a plant spacing of 40-50 cm. After sowing, cover with a thin layer of soil to cover the seeds. If the temperature is slightly low, you can use a film to cover the ground to increase the temperature and ensure seed germination.

4. Scaffolding

Short beans are vines that grow very fast. When the plant starts to sprout, a climbing support needs to be built in time. The material of the bracket can be locally available, such as bamboo poles, wooden sticks, etc. The shape of the support can be determined according to the variety and growth of the beans, such as I-shaped, herringbone, triangle, etc.

5. Field management

During the growth of short beans, weeding and loosening the soil should be done in time to keep the soil loose and breathable. Short beans have a greater demand for water, but are not tolerant to waterlogging. During the growing season, keep the soil moist, but avoid standing water. At the same time, according to the growth of short beans, apply nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium mixed fertilizers in time to promote their growth and flowering and fruiting.

The above is an introduction to the planting method and time of short beans. Short beans can generally be harvested 10-15 days after flowering. When harvesting, choose short beans with full pods and bright colors.
