You don’t need to buy chives, just plant a pot on the balcony and harvest and eat them whenever you want. They are green and healthy!

Growing chives from seeds

1. You can plant chives when the temperature is above 15℃.

2. Prepare some leek seeds. You can buy them from the market, or borrow some mature seeds from people who grow leeks.

3. Prepare the pots and soil for planting chives. You can use an insulated box or an iron basin. It must be big enough. If you plant too few, there won’t be enough to eat. The soil can be mixed with garden soil and river sand in a ratio of 1:1.

4. Soak the seeds in warm water for 12 hours, then spread them evenly in the flowerpot, water them thoroughly, and place them in a place with scattered light and ventilation. They will germinate after a week.

5. It will grow slowly when sprouting, so pay attention to watering and fertilizing. Generally, water the plant when the soil is dry. Water the plant once every two days in hot weather and once a week in autumn and winter.

6. Mainly apply nitrogen fertilizer. If you grow it at home, you can boil soybeans and ferment them, then mix them with water in a ratio of 1:500 and water them to the leeks.

7. The more you cut the leeks, the longer they will become. When you eat them, just cut them from the roots.

Root leek

1. If you think it takes too long to grow from seeds, you can directly buy some leek root seeds, preferably two-year-old ones.

2. The leek roots you bought must be processed first. If the plants are too dense, spread them out a bit and trim the roots to about 4 cm.

3. You can soak the leek roots in potassium permanganate solution or carbendazim solution to disinfect and sterilize to avoid diseases and pests.

4. The soil and flower pots are the same as prepared above. You can put some decomposed chicken manure at the bottom of the pot to maintain the nutrients needed for the growth of leeks.

5. Plant the leek tubers at a distance of about 10 cm, water them thoroughly, and place them in a sunny and ventilated place.

6. New leeks will grow after 10 days and can be harvested when they grow to more than 20 cm.

What delicious foods can be made from leeks?

1. Scrambled eggs with leeks and shrimps.

① Peel the shrimps, remove the shrimp threads, wash and set aside.

②Choose the leeks, wash them and cut them into 5cm pieces for later use.

③ Beat two eggs and mix well, add appropriate amount of salt, then add shrimps and mix well.

④ Add oil to the pan, pour the eggs and shrimp into the pan, stir-fry, then pour in the leeks, add a small spoonful of salt, and continue to stir-fry.

⑤The finished product is out of the pot.

2. Chive dumplings.

①Add water to ordinary flour and knead into dough. Cover with a wet cloth and let it rise for 15 minutes.

②After the eggs are fried, chop them into small pieces. Also chop the chives, put them together, add appropriate amount of salt and sesame oil and mix well.

③ Divide the dough into even-sized pieces, roll them into pancake shape, wrap the fillings in them like dumplings, and then press them into pancake shape.

④Light a frying pan and add some oil. When it’s hot, put the wrapped pancakes in.

⑤ Fry until both sides are golden brown and the chive dumplings are ready.
