The language and story of the worry-free flower

The language of the flower

When the worry-free flower blooms, the whole tree turns yellow, like a torch, and is very dazzling. From a distance, it looks like a golden pagoda.

It is said that Sakyamuni Buddha was born under this tree, so the Asoka tree is also regarded as a sacred tree in Buddhism.

It is also said that sitting under the worry-free tree can help you forget all your worries and be free from cares.

The story of the worry-free flower

In Xishuangbanna, the Dai people all believe in Theravada Buddhism, and many plants related to Buddhism are widely planted, such as the Asoka tree.

There is an allusion about the worry-free flower that is related to Buddhism.

It is said that in ancient India more than 2,000 years ago, there was a kingdom called Kapilavastu. The king and queen had been married for many years but had no children. When the queen was 45 years old, one day she dreamed of a white elephant that flew into her belly. Then she got pregnant.

According to the customs of ancient India at that time, a woman had to return to her parents' home to give birth to her first child. Before giving birth, the queen would ride on an elephant sedan back to her parents' home. While walking on the road, passing by Lumbini Garden, she felt a little tired, so she stopped to rest. When the queen came under a worry-free flower tree, she put out her hand to hold the trunk, which disturbed the fetus and caused her to give birth under the tree. The baby was Sakyamuni.

Therefore, Asoka flowers are planted around many Buddhist temples because Buddhism regards the Asoka tree as a sacred tree.

Some families without children will also plant worry-free flowers in front of their houses.
