How to prolong the flowering period of camellia

How to prolong the flowering period of camellia

1. Temperature

The suitable growth temperature for camellia is between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. If the temperature is higher than 29 degrees Celsius, it will stop growing. If the temperature reaches 35 degrees and is not controlled, the flowers will be burned.

2. Soil

It likes an acidic environment and needs to be cultivated in acidic loam with good air permeability to facilitate the development of its root hairs. The pH should be controlled between 5.5 and 6.5. It is usually cultivated in a mixture of red soil or humus, peat, and rotten sawdust. A better choice is sandy soil, humus or loess.

3. Lighting

It needs plenty of light every day, but avoid strong light. In spring, autumn and winter, it is fine even if no shading measures are taken, but when the sun is scorching in summer, it needs 50% shade to avoid direct sunlight to protect the leaves and flowers from being burned.

4. Watering

Water appropriately according to the external humidity, use neutral or slightly acidic water, and water thoroughly each time. The frequency of watering can be low, but every time you must ensure that the water can fully penetrate the soil. Do not let the soil dry out and do not allow water to accumulate in the flowerpot, otherwise the overly humid environment will cause root rot.

5. Flower fertilizer

It does not require much fertilizer. Generally speaking, before the flowers bloom, fertilizer with a high alum content needs to be applied to supplement the nutrients needed for flowering. When flowering, a little fertilizer with high P and K content can make its flowers swell, more colorful, and increase the flowering time.
