How to grow gardenia so that it blooms

How to grow gardenia so that it blooms

1. Soil selection. In the south, it is easy for plants to bloom, and slightly acidic soil is a major factor that promotes flowering. We can choose to mix leaf mold and peat soil; or mix fermented sawdust with half garden soil, but remember not to use old wall soil or coal slag for cultivation. If you want to save trouble, you can directly buy Clivia soil.

2. The humidity is appropriate. This flower likes moist soil and a relatively humid environment. At night, we can use a watering can to spray water on the leaves to replenish water. In the south, you can just use tap water for watering; but in the north, because tap water is alkaline, it needs to be left for two days before it can be used, and every 3 to 5 days, add 0.5 grams of citric acid to one liter of water as a source of water for the flowers.

3. Apply fertilizer in time. This kind of flower consumes a lot of nutrients, so we must add enough fertilizer. During the bud period, it should be watered once or twice with a solution containing 0.1% potassium dihydrogen phosphate. This method can make the flowers larger and the fragrance more intense when they bloom.

4. Provide light. Only if it is exposed to more sunlight will its flowers sprout more. If it grows in semi-shade for a long time, the branches will grow longer, but the number of flowers will be relatively small. Except for the summer when the light is strong and the winter when it enters dormancy and needs shade, it can be placed in the sun at other times.

5. Insulation measures. Severe winters can damage the plant's root system, and it will be slow to recover in the spring. However, if it is kept indoors, the flower buds formed in autumn will fall off due to insufficient light, and it will also bloom later the following year. So we can wrap it with foam plastic to keep it warm, and place it in a sunny and windproof place to spend the winter.
